Parks & Recreation#
- Stevenson Park: (San Luis Ave & San Pierre Way)
- Features: Large grassy fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, and picnic areas.
- Community Use: It is the de facto “town square” for Rex Manor, hosting pickup games, dog walkers, and neighborhood events.
- Rex Manor Park: (Farley St & Central Expressway)
- A smaller, quieter “pocket park” in the south west corner, commonly known as the “tot lot”.
- Features: Ideal for younger children or a quiet reading spot.
- Trivia: Sits atop the Hetch Hetchy water pipeline that supplies water to the entire peninsula.
- School Grounds: Residents often utilize the open spaces at Theuerkauf Elementary and Stevenson Elementary after hours.
Schools#
Rex Manor is home to two schools that share a campus in the center of the neighborhood:
- Stevenson Elementary (P.A.C.T.): A highly rated “choice” school known for its Parent Teacher Child (PACT) model, which requires high parent participation. This draws engaged families into the neighborhood.
- Theuerkauf Elementary: A solid neighborhood school that serves many local families.
Neighborhood Life#
- Neighborhood Association: The Rex Manor Neighborhood Association (RMNA) is active and recognized by the City of Mountain View (often a recipient of the City’s Neighborhood Grant Program). Wayne Watson is the current President.
- Typical Events:
- Annual BBQ / Block Party: Organized by the RMNA, often held in the summer (June/July).
- Movie Nights: “Free Movie Night at Stevenson Park” is a popular recurring event (e.g., featuring family-friendly films like Despicable Me). Note: While popular with residents, these are not run by the RMNA.
- Communication: There is an active Google Group (
rex-manor-neighbors) used for lost-and-found, event planning, and safety alerts.
Nearby Amenities#
- Shopping: Residents have easy access to Bailey Park Plaza (Shoreline Blvd) and Monta Loma Plaza (across Rengstorff Ave), which feature grocery stores, coffee shops (Starbucks), and other retail conveniences.
- Transit: Easy access to the Mountain View Transit Center (via bike or short drive), serving both Caltrain and VTA Light Rail, plus the Central Expressway for commuters.
- Tech: Close proximity to the Googleplex and Microsoft campuses.
